Symposium on Public Policy: Submit a Proposal

Breaking Through the Noise: Assessing and Communicating the Impact of Nonprofits and Philanthropy

There are over 1.9 million nonprofits in the United States. These organizations are driving economic growth, enhancing cultural vibrancy, and providing critical services to communities. However, many stories of impact are not reaching vital audiences like policymakers, the media, and the public. On September 12, the Symposium on Public Policy for Nonprofits will bring people together to tackle this challenge.

Do you have strategies for communicating our sector’s impact? Submit a proposal by Friday, May 2nd!

ARNOVA25 Proposal Submissions Now Open

We are pleased to announce that submissions are now open for the 2025 ARNOVA Annual Conference, to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana!

This year’s theme, "The Evolving Role of Philanthropy in Global, National, and Local Contexts," invites us to explore how philanthropy is transforming across sectors and scales. With a focus on transformation, collaboration, and critical inquiry, the conference will foster deep conversations about philanthropy’s complex relationships—with government, nonprofit organizations, and the communities it seeks to serve.

Key topics include:

  • Philanthropy and Government: Examining shifting public-private dynamics, accountability, and social innovation.
  • Philanthropy and the Nonprofit Sector: Investigating donor influence, resource dependency, and mission integrity.
  • Critical Perspectives and Power Dynamics: Analyzing race, class, and gender in philanthropic leadership and strategy.
  • Globalization and Localization: Balancing global ambitions with local needs and cultural contexts.

We welcome submissions that speak directly to these topics as well as those that broaden our understanding of nonprofit and voluntary action more generally.

📅 Submission Deadline: May 15, 2025 for nonmembers and May 22, 2025 for members
📍 Conference Dates: November 20-22, 2025
📌 Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

ARNOVA 2025 is committed to inclusive, critical dialogue and encourages submissions from underrepresented voices and across global contexts. Join us in shaping the future of nonprofit and philanthropic research and practice.
