The School of Community Resources and Development (SCRD) in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University invites applications for Faculty Associate positions for the 2024 – 2025 academic year. Faculty Associates are part-time, adjunct faculty who are hired on a one-semester, renewable contract to teach one or two courses (not to exceed 0.40 FTE) per semester, either in-person or online.


Faculty Associate positions are fixed-term appointments that are not eligible for benefits, sabbaticals, or tenure. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load. Official transcripts are required prior to employment. Individuals employed as Faculty Associates may not hold multiple, non-benefits eligible appointments at Arizona State University.


For this position, we seek to attract an active, culturally, and academically diverse pool of qualified people who are available to teach in-person and/or online courses on ASU’s campus in Downtown Phoenix or Tempe.

Job Responsibilities

The role requires someone who can deliver engaging in-person and/or online lectures, discussions, and content, contribute to the creation of assignments and exams, evaluate and grade student work, manage Canvas learning management platform and hold office hours to assist students. Nonprofit Leadership and Management (NLM) courses are developed and have been taught multiple times with a well-defined syllabus outlining purpose, content, readings, and assignments. NLM courses are aligned with Curricular Guidelines of the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council (NACC). The SCRD has earned NACC accreditation for both undergraduate and graduate NLM Degrees. Local applicants may teach either online or in-person courses. Worldwide applicants may apply to teach online courses. As an applicant, you are comfortable with technology, enjoy the idea of educating students in a higher education environment, and bring demonstrated evidence of a strong appetite and success for teaching, leading, learning.


Required Qualifications

  • An earned master’s degree in nonprofit leadership and management, educational leadership, public administration or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment.
  • Three years of related experience (Prior college level teaching and/or pertinent practitioner experience that involves developing and/or providing training and development workshops/courses to adult learners).
  • Consistent with ASU’s Charter, a demonstrated commitment to inclusion.


Desired Qualifications

  • Prior higher education teaching or guest lecturing experience preferred.
  • Experience facilitating student-led classroom and/or online discussions.
  • Prior online teaching experience.
  • Evidence of effective collaboration skills.
  • Experience with technology/course management systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

The initial application deadline is May 17, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. Arizona Time. Applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis for a reserve pool throughout the fiscal year (which closes on June 30, 2025).  Applications in the reserve pool may then be reviewed in the order in which they were received until positions are filled.
