Institute for Nonprofit Management and Governance
Part-time, 30 hours/week
Starting March 1, 2025, limited until September 30, 2029
We focus on nonprofit organizations, civil society, individual engagement in volunteer work, and the management and governance of nonprofit organizations.
Our expectations:
Teaching and Research:
You will contribute to our research projects, such as the Civic Life of Cities project. In teaching, you will participate in our Specialization in Public and Nonprofit Management (SBWL) and in the fields of HR management, leadership, and organization within the bachelor’s Program in Business and Economics. Teaching should be in German and English. Non-German-speaking candidates are expected to acquire proficiency in B2 German within three years.
Writing your Dissertation:
You will conduct research on your chosen topic, dedicating one-third of your working time to your dissertation. Your dissertation topic can be freely selected according to your strengths and interests but should align with the institute’s existing research focus areas.
Student Support:
You will assist students by answering questions, providing feedback on seminar papers, and co-supervising bachelor theses.
Organizational and Administrative Tasks:
You will help organize teaching activities and provide support in the administrative aspects of research.

Your contribution:
Educational Background:
A completed diploma/master’s degree in social and economic sciences that qualifies you for doctoral studies at WU.
Research Skills:
Ideally, experience in and, at the very least, interest in qualitative or quantitative empirical social research.
Software Skills:
Proven ability to quickly and independently learn new applications. Knowledge of research software (e.g., Qualtrics, R, SPSS, MaxQDA, NVivo, Zotero, EndNote) is an advantage.
Publications:
Interest in and documented experience with academic writing in German and English.
Interest and Experience:
A strong interest in civil society research and nonprofit management, with prior experience being a plus. In particular, we encourage researchers interested in nonprofits’ contributions to democracies to apply for this position.
Teaching Experience:
Ideally, prior experience teaching at the university level.
Multimedia Teaching:
Willingness to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.
